The process for microneedling with PRP begins with the collection of blood to make the PRP. First, blood will be drawn from a vein in the arm, typically 5-15mL. The blood sample is then placed in a centrifuge which isolates the platelets, forming the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) concentration. This step in the process typically takes 15 minutes.
Once the face has been thoroughly treated, the injector runs a microneedling device over the face while squirting the platelets into the mini injection holes. Since the platelets are high in growth factors, and the microneedling stimulates the skin to regenerate, the procedure aids in cell turnover. Think of the PRP as planting seeds so that new skin cells can grow resulting in improvements in firmness, texture, reduction in acne scars, and discoloration. Microneedling has benefits for the skin both with and without PRP but studies show that the addition of PRP resulted in a greater improvement in texture specifically with respect to the reduction in acne scars.
In addition to microneedling, the platelet rich plasma can also be injected under the surface of the skin via cannula. This helps specifically with hollows under the eyes and tear troughs as well as the smile lines around the nose. PRP with a cannula and microneedling can be done in the same treatment session. Maximum results are seen with 3-4 treatments spaced a month apart.
PRP is also an increasingly popular way to treat hair loss in both men and women. By injecting the PRP in the scalp, dormant follicles are stimulated and new hair growth results.
This technique injekts a client’s own platelets and plasma into the skin to create a glow and improve texture and appearance while stimulating the skin to heal from within.
